Winning start to York Festival as Owney Madden strikes

OWNEY MADDEN delivered a winning start on the opening day of the York Ebor Festival with victory in the 7f Nursery handicap for owners Chelsea Thoroughbreds.
The exciting 2YO colt left his Goodwood form behind to come out on top in a thrilling tussle with the Michael Dods-trained Troubador, claiming the valuable £70,000 finale to day one.
Owney Madden struck in impressive fashion at Newbury in July on what was his third career start, and York appeared to also bring the best out of the son of Oasis Dream on Wednesday to make it a flyng start for Martyn Meade Racing to the York Ebor Festival.
Earlier in the day, Infrastructure ran a fine race to finish third on his first outing over two miles in the 4.15 Sky Bet Handicap at York, surging home late from the rear but just unable to pick up the leaders.
The action continues on the Knavesmire on Thursday, as talented filly Lyzbeth starts for the team in the final race of the day, the Class 2 Fillies Handicap over 7f at 4.50.
